Now, we are continuing that with the NHL first-round series which concluded recently. We are collecting some photos with humorous captions added to entertain you during this postseason play. Today we’re covering the Eastern Conference comic captions for the first round of 2019-20 postseason.
First Round Eastern Conference Comic Captions
The postseason is alive and well as the eight Eastern Conference teams did battle to move forward to the second round. We will cover the four series which recently were completed in this version of comic captions. We’ll include four comic captions to attempt to cover all of the teams who participated.
Columbus Blue Jackets Get Struck by Lightning
The Tampa Bay Lightning were on a mission… to NOT get eliminated in the first round as they did last season. Against a tough and well-coached team in the Columbus Blue Jackets, they made it look easy by winning in five games. Brayden Point‘s overtime goal 5:12 into overtime was the clincher. Tampa surged ahead in this deciding game taking a two-goal lead only to allow the Jackets to score four straight goals. Tampa managed to tie the game with just 1:38 remaining in the third period. Now that’s the kind of clutch play you’d expect from the Lightning.

“Thank goodness this isn’t soccer or you’d have a great header into the net Boone.”
Andrei Vasilevskiy, goalie – Tampa Bay Lightning
Boston Bruins Rid Themselves of Those Pesky Carolina Hurricanes
The Boston Bruins were the unmitigated best team in the NHL finishing with the best record winning the Presidents’ Trophy with 100 regular-season (pandemic related or not) points. Still, the pesky, always tough Carolina Hurricanes tried their best to upset the Bruins. The Bruins had contributions from many players to eliminate the ‘Canes in five games to advance to the second round. Is there any stopping the powerful Bruins? We’ll soon know.

“Gee I hope I don’t get a holding the stick penalty, although that may be a good technique to stopping you, David.”
Sebastian Aho, forward – Carolina Hurricanes
Montreal Canadiens Give Philadelphia Flyers Trouble
The upstart Montreal Canadiens who were the lowest seed in the Eastern Conference qualifying round tried to duplicate their upset of the Pittsburgh Penguins. Good try. The Philadelphia Flyers had a different outcome in mind and got past the Habs in six games. Montreal can be proud to have stayed with the Flyers and eliminating the Pens in the first round. Now, they need to decide what to do about Max Domi. Keep him or trade him? The Philadelphia Flyers advance to the second round for the first time in eight years.

“Nope, I’m not letting you tickle me, Xavier, you know that drives me crazy.”
Tyler Pitlick, forward – Philadelphia Flyers
New York Islanders Dispatch the Washington Capitals
Everyone knows that Barry Trotz is an exemplary coach and he prepares his team very well. He got some more revenge against his former team, the Washington Capitals. The New York Islanders did in the Caps hopes of advancing and did it in five games. Game, set, match to Trotz. The Caps fired their head coach Todd Reirden to show their disgust to losing to the Isles. Will Alex Ovechkin ever raise the Stanley Cup again? The Islanders are one tough team, and it will be enlightening to see how far they advance. With Trotz at the helm, all is possible.

“Okay time to pay up Alex, you owe me a beer and a hot dog. It just wasn’t your year this time. Good luck going forward.”
Barry Trotz, head coach – New York Islanders
In Conclusion
It was an entertaining Eastern Conference first-round with some surprises, which are becoming normal operating procedure for the postseason. Teams expected to win don’t always do that as well as teams without much of a shot coming through in the clutch.
Stay tuned as to when the second round concludes for more comic captions.
