Have you ever looked at a sports photo and thought of a funny caption? We have, and did a collection of some for the 2019-20 season. Now, we are continuing that with the NHL qualifying series which began recently. We are collecting some photos with humorous captions added to entertain you during this postseason play. Today we cover the Montreal Canadiens vs the Pittsburgh Penguins comic captions for the 2019-20 postseason.
Montreal Canadiens vs Pittsburgh Penguins
Montreal Canadiens Dispatch Pittsburgh Penguins in NHL Qualifying Series
Going into this NHL qualifying series almost nobody thought the Canadiens had a chance of winning this series. Well, this is the playoffs (or least the qualifier to get there) and anything can and will happen.
The upstart 12th seeded Habs took the first game in overtime, and that seems to have helped them gain momentum right from the gate. In these postseason games, momentum is everything. Get a hot goalie or a forward who catches fire and you’re in the driver’s seat especially in the best of five-game series.
As is the case in most five-game series, Game Three is pivotal. Captain Shea Weber stepped up with a goal and two assists while Jeff Petry provided the game-winner. Carey Price dominated in goal with a 3-1 record and an amazing .947 save percentage. He only allowed 1.67 goals-per-game and that certainly was a key factor in Montreal’s advancement past a favoured Penguins’ club.
Now that the Habs have some confidence with the reassurance of dispatching a playoff proven team like Pittsburgh, they can feel better about themselves.

“You score four goals and 10 points all season and then tally four points in four games? Show me your secret, Paul.”

Pittsburgh Penguins go Down in Defeat
With talents like Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Jake Guentzel, and Bryan Rust, the Penguins perhaps took the Canadiens too lightly. Their offence was stopped by Price yet all the above-named players had at least three points. Malkin laid an egg with just one assist to his credit.
Whenever you’re up against a goalie of Carey Price’s stature you need to focus to win. The Penguins lost their focus and now have nothing but a 12.5 percent chance of drafting Alexis Lafreniere. Let’s focus on that a bit. What would the Pens look like with Lafreniere on Crosby’s wing? Pretty scary, isn’t it?
The Pens need to decide if Matt Murray is their man in net or not. After this series, it will take some deep thought. He was 1-2 with a .914 save percentage and a 3.04 goals-against-average. Those numbers may not jump out at you, so we’ll see what they decide. Murray is a restricted free agent as is Tristan Jarry. The salary difference between the two netminders is where it gets interesting. Murray is coming off of a $3.75 million AAV salary, while Jarry was earning a meagre $675,000.
What Lies Ahead
General manager Jim Rutherford has his work cut out for him to decide what his goaltending position looks like going forward. Better yet with all the offensive firepower, this team possesses they could not solve Price, and that was the difference.
It may not be the same without seeing Crosby and company in the playoffs, but it is what it is.
