Columbus Blue Jackets 2019-20 Comic Captions

Columbus Blue Jackets comic captions

Have you ever looked at a sports photo and thought of a funny caption? We have, and here’s a collection of some. If you enjoy this one, leave us a comment afterward. We will do a series called NHL Comic Captions by team collecting some photos with humorous captions to entertain you during this suspension in play… and perhaps cheer you up a bit. Today we cover the Columbus Blue Jackets comic captions for the 2019-20 season.

Columbus Blue Jackets 2019-20 Comic Captions

Zach Werenski

Zach Werenski had a pretty remarkable season. He did hold out for a contract, finally signing it right before the 2019-20 campaign began. Good for the Blue Jackets since he had 21 goals and 21 assists in 63 games. That three-year $15 million contract looks pretty good right about now.

The soon to be 23-year-old defenceman performed well coming in third in scoring on the offence starved Blue Jackets. The Grosse Pointe, Mich. native plays well on the power play too. He tallied five goals and eight assists on that unit. This season was his best points-per-game average with a 0.65 mark.

Werenski plays a very controlled game only being assessed ten penalty minutes all season. He almost averaged 24 minutes of ice time per game.

With the Columbus team scheduled to face the Toronto Maple Leafs in the play-in series, Werenski figures to be an integral part of the Blue Jackets success.

Here’s our Columbus Blue Jackets comic caption for Werenski.

“Now you’re supposed to be my lucky stick! Start performing or you can easily be replaced.”

Pierre-Luc Dubois

Pierre-Luc Dubois will be leaving his entry-level contract which pays him $894,166. With his 18 goals and 31 assists in 70 games he led the team in scoring. He is a very productive player for the Columbus club. In his three years, he has played in 234 games with 65 goals and 93 assists to his credit. That is a 0.68 points per game and the Blue Jackets desperately need his offence.

That means they will need to find some financial reward for the soon to be 22-year-old forward. If the salary cap doesn’t rise (and it is expected not to) the team will roughly have only $6.4 million to sign Dubois and seven other restricted free agents. Good luck with that. One thing is certain, Dubois has to be at the top of their to-do list after this season.

The Blue Jackets will find a way to get him signed. They have no choice.

Elvis Merzlikins

Elvis Merzlikins has really helped the Columbus team succeed well beyond expectations. The team lost such players as Artemi Panarin, Matt Duchene, and Ryan Dzingel, to name a few. Then, they were hampered with endless injuries, yet they still made it to the play-in round to see which teams play in the playoffs for 2020.

Elvis was in the house (couldn’t resist… sorry) showing a record of 13-9-8 this season. His 2.35 goals-against-average was fifth best in the league. He also was fifth with a .923 save percentage.

With his entry-level contract due to expire after this season, the team stepped up and rewarded Elvis with two-year, $8 million contract in April. Even with play suspended due to the pandemic the team recognized that he is a keeper.

He could be the key in the series against the Maple Leafs. It could be that the Maple Leafs will be singing… “Don’t be cruel” with Elvis in the net.
