Edmonton Oilers Comic Captions for 2019-20
Connor McDavid
There’s not much to say that hasn’t already been said about the super talented Connor McDavid. The fact that he just keeps getting better and better is mind boggling. This season he has averaged 1.52 points per game while gathering 97 points in just 64 games. He epitomizes the Edmonton Oilers in every conceivable manner.
His main weapon (and there are many) has to be his speed along with his excellent skating ability. Once he’s past a defender the opposing goalie is in for a challenge. Stopping McDavid on a breakaway or shootout has to be a nightmare for a goalie. He has so many moves that it’s difficult to know which one he will use in his arsenal.
One missing link in McDavid’s amazing NHL career has been to only appear in the playoffs once during the 2016-17 season when the Oilers fell in the second round to the Anaheim Ducks. That may soon end as the Oilers may face the Chicago Blackhawks in the 24-team proposed playoffs if the details can be worked out. And, Edmonton has been rumoured to be a candidate to host some of the games. Even without fans in attendance, it would be awesome to see what McDavid can do in the playoffs.
He’s one special talent.

Leon Draisaitl
When you think about the awesome offence that the Edmonton Oilers possess, you can’t leave out Leon Draisaitl. If you feel that McDavid’s 1.52 points per game is off the charts, try Draisaitl’s 1.55 points per game. He has been nothing short of magnificent this season collecting 43 goals and 67 assists in 71 games. Leon also has 10 game-winning goals and 16 power play tallies added to his resume for 2019-020.
With McDavid centreing the first line and Draisaitl the second line, Edmonton is one scary offensive might. The duo accounts for 34.3 percent of the entire team’s point totals. It goes without saying that if you can stop one or both of these players, you have a shot at winning the game.
Over the past two seasons Draisaitl has put up 215 points. That was why the Oilers inked the talented German forward to an eight-year $68 million deal in August of 2017.
The McDavid/Draisaitl show will be in the full spotlight if the NHL decides to go straight to the playoffs. All that can be said about that is… good luck Chicago.

Darnell Nurse
When it comes to defence for the Oilers, the young blueliner Darnell Nurse has a bright future. The 6′-4″, 221 pound defender knows how to push his weight around. He led the Oilers in hits this season with 172 or over two a game. He placed second in blocks with 141.
His services were retained when the team rewarded Nurse with a two-year $11.2 million deal he signed in February of this year. That was up from his previous contract that netted him a two-year $3.2 million contract. Whether he stays in Edmonton the next time his contract is due will be purely up to him as he will be unrestricted free agent after the 2021-22 season.
For the current time being Nurse has been a reliable and strong force on the blue line. If the Oilers have any weaknesses it has to be on defence and goaltending. The team does have Evan Bouchard waiting to get his shot in the NHL. They also have Ethan Bear and Philip Broberg to give Nurse some competition for a spot.
