Washington Capitals Comic Captions for 2019-20
Alex Ovechkin
It can hardly go without saying that anything written about the Washington Capitals can exclude the great Alex Ovechkin. This season Alex has really found the range (as if he ever hasn’t) by firing in 48 goals. He is tied with David Pastrnak for the NHL lead in goals and his 19 assists place him 18th in scoring in the league.
There seems to not be any full-proof method of stopping Ovechkin once he lines up in his favourite spot in the left faceoff circle ready to receive his one-timer pass. His shot is heavy and accurate. He has taken the most shots on the team, which is no surprise. When you possess a weapon like that, you use it with regularity. Ovechkin is shooting at a 15.4 percent success rate, so give him the puck and watch the red light go on.
In fact, he has led the team in shots taken all but four seasons of the 15 he’s been in a Caps jersey. Pretty impressive. His career stats just stand out. He has played in 1,152 games, and has 706 goals with 572 assists good for 1,278 points.
The pandemic has slowed down his chase to attempt to surpass Wayne Gretzky‘s elusive record of 894 goals, but don’t count Ovechkin out. He is a very driven hockey player.

“Now Tom close your eyes and imagine raising that Cup again… you’re getting sleepy… release all negative thoughts… deeper and deeper.”

John Carlson
It’s amazing what kind of season that defenceman John Carlson has had for the Caps. He has had 15 goals and 60 assists good for 75 points in 69 games. Carlson has really contributed on the power play gathering 24 assists. Over the past three seasons he has averaged 71 points. That would be a really great year for a forward while Carlson lines up as a defender. He’s also a workhorse averaging over 24 minutes a game. Just like Ovechkin, when you have a player of his caliber you gotta put him on the ice whenever possible.
Ovechkin and Carlson have combined for 23 percent of all scoring on the team. That is one eye-opening statistic. The Caps were doing just fine leading the Atlantic Division with 90 points before the suspension of play. If play continues, look for them to pick up right where they left off. Carlson has already eluded his past record of 70 points in a season and he still had 13 games to play.
Just try to stop Carlson, I dare you.

“Hey Blake, I can just remove a digit unless you want to get it out of my face!”

Evgeny Kuznetsov
Evgeny Kuznetsov was suspended for three games for “inappropriate conduct.” Kuznetsov tested positive for cocaine while representing the Russian national team at the world championships in May, earning a four-year ban from international play from the International Ice Hockey Federation. He did not appeal the suspension said he learned from the experience.
His play on the ice has been admirable since that suspension. He’s collected 19 goals and 33 assists in 63 games this season. His power play production of six man-advantage goals has helped the Caps. He is an accurate shooter with a 14.7 percent shooting percentage.
When he focuses he can definitely play the game with the best of them. It remains to be seen if he falls from grace again. It wouldn’t be a good idea.

“This is the ONLY white powder I care about… no really.”
