The Edmonton Oilers have extended forward Gaetan Haas to a one-year contract with an average annual value of $915,000. This contract carries him through the 2020-21 season.

Gaetan Haas Re-Signs With the Oilers
Not only was this Haas’ first season in the NHL, but it is also his first season in North America. The swiss-born forward was originally signed by the Oilers as an undrafted free agent on July 2, 2019. Playing in 58 games for the Oilers before the break started.
In those games, Haas scored five goals and five assists for 10 points while adding six minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 48.7 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of 1.4. With not a lot of NHL success, Haas has seen his fair share of international play. Haas won a silver medal with Switzerland in the 2018 winter Olympics.
What This Means for the Future
While Haas stats may not say a lot, he is a big factor on the ice for the Oilers. The 28-year old centre has some size to him. At 6′ 0″ 181lbs, he makes sure to use every inch of his body to help the Oilers succeed.
When Haas is on the ice, he is there to make every second count. Currently, he ranks sixth in hits and fifth in blocked shots for the Oilers forwards. While still only averaging 9:45 in minutes on the ice, that’s the second-lowest on the team. Also, quite productive in the face-off circle, Haas is fifth on the Oilers in faceoff wins.
Slightly less than his previous contract. Haas has been able to play the game he loves for a living once again. The hard-working forward has proven he has the potential to stick in the NHL, now it is time to prove it. This could end up being quite a steal for Oilers down the road.
