The Vegas Golden Knights announced that they have signed forward Nicolas Roy to a two-year contract extension. The deal will start in 2020-21 and carries a cap hit of $750,000. The Knights announced the deal late Wednesday evening.

The Amos, Québec native spent this past season playing with the Chicago Wolves of the AHL and the Golden Knights. In 28 games played with the big club this season, Roy scored five goals and added five assists for 10 points to go along with eight minutes in penalties. He had a Corsi For of 61.4% and a relative Corsi of 5.1.
Making his NHL debut on October 27th against the Anaheim Ducks, Roy scored his first goal. He was acquired by the Golden Knights along with a conditional fifth-round pick in the 2021 NHL draft from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for forward Erik Haula.
Standing at 6’4″, Roy has all the tools to make an impact at the NHL level. He is not afraid to go into the corners to retrieve the puck and is great at screening the goalie in front of the net. He has good hands in tight and can set up teammates with ease. For his size, he is a good skater and uses his speed to break apart from opponents. Roy goes hard on the forecheck and is good at killing penalties. He comes back to help out his defencemen on the backcheck and is viewed as a good all-around player.
What This Means for the Future
With the signing of another depth piece, the Golden Knights are looking ahead towards the future. With the Seattle expansion draft looming on the minds of many teams, getting a skilled player under contract is always a positive.
Although Roy is still developing, the Golden Knights are excited to see what he can do. With the potential he has, Golden Knights fans should be excited to see what he can bring to the table in the future.
