The St. Louis Blues have re-signed forward Sammy Blais to a two-year extension with a cap hit of $1.5 million. This deal comes after Blais signed a one-year contract last summer.

Sammy Blais Signs Two-Year Extension
Some were concerned with how a Blais contract would turn out for the Blues. The 23-year-old forward has shown glimpses of great, reliable play but hasn’t managed to play more than 40 games in a season; a knock he set this year. He was held to less than half the season as a result of an injury suffered in November. The injury required him to get surgery, leaving him on injured reserve for two months out of the year.
In the 40 games that he did play, Blais managed 13 points: a career-high for the inexperienced winger. He tallied these totals as one of the most flexible parts of the Blues lineup. He was able to play wherever he was put. It was this flexibility that many Blues fans admired. The 6’2″, 205 lb (188 cm, 92 kg) winger had an aggressive style of play that mixed perfectly with both the speed and finesse of players like David Perron or the grit of the Robert Thomas line.
Blais’ signing marks the first of a long list of pending free agents. The Blues have six others to worry about now, including captain Alex Pietrangelo. Blais’ signing brings the Blues to roughly just under $10 million in cap space, a number that many speculate with almost entirely go to Pietrangelo’s new deal. The star defenceman tallied 52 points and a career-high 16 goals this season in 70 games. It was a very impressive season from Pietrangelo, as he looked to rally his team to the defence of the Stanley Cup. In fact, many believe Pietrangelo’s dazzling 2019-20 season is among the best in the league and well-deserving of the Norris Trophy, at least as told by the underlying statistics.
