Dominik Hasek Looking at Potential Presidential Campaign

Longtime Buffalo Sabres goaltender Dominik Hasek is looking for a new career. After Hasek retired, Hasek said he didn’t want to work in sports as most retired professional players do. He wanted to pursue something different. Politics weren’t something that Hasek had followed until after his retirement from professional hockey in 2011, where he retired from the KHL.

In Lukas Vrablik‘s recent article for The Athletic, Hasek is quoted: “It’s hard not to express your opinion and feelings,” Hasek said. “I feel like a person whose opinions are interesting to people. When I can say them aloud, I consider it to be almost a duty, and not to keep it to myself. There are consequences, people who agree and those who don’t. However, if you tell them what you believe, that’s the best thing to do.”

Hasek’s Increasing Voice in Politics

Hasek has become extremely vocal in politics in the Czech Republic, actively criticizing the now Prime Minister Andrej Babis.

Hasek truly became a voice for the people when he gave a speech at a political protest. Last year when people were protesting changes in the justice system and criticized Prime Minister Babis.

Hasek has stated that he hasn’t ruled out running for president. With the next presidential elections coming in 2023 and 2028, Hasek could campaign to become the fourth president of the Czech Republic. He said he will see where he is at moving forward and that it is definitely a possibility. He has been a national icon for the country for some time now, representing the Czech Republic at the 1998 Olympics and winning gold for them, and has the favour of the people. It may not be outrageous to see The Dominator become president.
