New York Rangers Chris Kreider Suffers Fractured Foot

Chris Kreider

The New York Rangers announced tonight that left winger Chris Kreider suffered a fractured foot in their game against the Philadelphia Flyers. He is currently listed as week-to-week.

Chris Kreider Injured

Kreider was injured after blocking a shot in the first period of the Rangers game against the Flyers. He left the game and did not return.

This season, Kreider has scored 24 goals and added 21 assists for 45 points to go along with 58 minutes in penalties. His possession numbers are 48.3 percent Corsi For and a Relative Corsi of 3.1.

Over his eight-year NHL career, Kreider has played solely for the New York Rangers. He has 157 goals and 159 assists for 316 career points in 522 career games. He was originally drafted by the New York Rangers in the first round, 19th overall in the 2009 NHL draft.

The Rangers will certainly be feeling the loss of Kreider. Fresh off of signing a seven-year extension, Kreider was leading the Rangers on a late season resurgence. Kreider brings an unadded dimension to his club. Not only can he score when needed, he can also provide a physical presence. He is not afraid to stick up for his teammates and is one of the first guys to join a scrum.

What This Means for the Future

With Kreider out for the foreseeable future, the Rangers will have to rely on their top players even more going forward. Kreider is not the only Ranger on the sideline as of late. Star rookie goalie Igor Shesterkin suffered a fractured rib in a car accident and will miss the next few games as well.

Having won nine out of their past 11 games, the Rangers are red-hot heading into the weekend. Currently two points out of a wild card spot, every point is crucial for them at this point. Their next game sees them welcome the Flyers to town.
