Wayne Simmonds To Buffalo

Listen Here

The boys open the show talking about the NHL Trade Deadline and the moves the New Jersey Devils made. Jim talks about the first trade involving Wayne Simmonds being traded to the Buffalo Sabres. While Jim thought the trade was similar to the Keith Kinkaid deal of last season to Columbus, Joe talks about how the Devils could find a diamond in the rough with that fifth-round pick. Jim also mentions that Sabres were on Simmonds’s eight-team no-trade list, and he waived it to go there.

Sami Vatanen To Carolina

Then the boys turn their attention to the big trade for the Devils that saw the team trade Sami Vatanen to the Carolina Hurricanes. Jim breaks down the trade and what the Devils got in return in drafts and prospects. Joe really likes the addition of Janne Kuokkanen and Fredrik Claesson. Kuokkanen will be getting a shot with the big club this season. Both players will be part of rebuild going forward for the Devils.

Louis Domingue To Vancouver

Then the boys look at the final trade of the day for the Devils which saw goaltender Louis Domingue traded to the Vancouver Canucks. This was a minor deal for the Devils, however, with Jacob Markstrom hurt, the Canucks were in need of goaltending. Jim points out how Domingue is going to a better situation as the Canucks defence is much better than the Devils.

Tom Fitzgerald’s Grade

Joe and Jim then hand out their grades for Devils general manager Tom Fitzgerald. Going into the deadline, the boys had already given him an A- for the deals involving Andy Greene and Blake Coleman. After what he got the Devils in return for Simmonds, Vatanen, and Domingue, his grade did not change. Plus the fact, he did not sell off Kyle Palmieri at a lower value than he wanted, the Devils GM had a good day.

Jersey Joe and Jim close the show talking about some of the big trades that happened and didn’t happen. Jim goes over the Jean-Gabriel Pageau to the New York Islanders and his extension, the Chris Kreider extension with the New York Rangers, Robin Lehner trade to Vegas, the moves the Pittsburgh Penguins, and Carolina Hurricanes did.
