Arizona Coyotes Jakob Chychrun Lost to Injury

Jakob Chychrun

The Arizona Coyotes have announced that defenceman Jakob Chychrun will be out of the lineup with a hip injury. This in addition to defenceman Jason Demers being out puts the Coyotes’ blueline shorthanded.

Per Craig Morgan who covers the team, Chychrun’s recovery status is unknown, but the team will not be playing many games so he could recover quickly.

Jakob Chychrun Injured

Chychrun, 21 has been playing well this season, his fourth with the Arizona Coyotes. His statistics this season indicate he has a good future with the team. He has 12 goals, 14 assists for 26 points which marks his best season in the NHL. He was the 16th overall selection in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft by the Arizona club.

His possession numbers have been good this season. He has a 50.2 Corsi For with a 2.9 Relative Corsi. He has 95 blocks and 75 hits to add to resume.

Chychrun’s career stats show 28 goals, 52 assists for 80 points. His career possession numbers are 48.4 Corsi For, and 1.4 Relative Corsi. He has lined up with veteran Alex Goligoski this season on the second defensive unit as well as taking minutes on the power play. His shot from the blueline has been effective and he’s learned when to cheat in the offensive zone.

What This Means Going Forward

The loss of both Demers and Chychrun will put more pressure on the remaining D-men to perform. It also couldn’t come at a worse time with the team struggling to remain in a playoff spot. The good news is goalie Darcy Kuemper may be back for the game on Tuesday night against the Florida Panthers.

That would be good news as the Coyotes have had a poor record without Kuemper in the net. Every game is like a playoff game going forward so the healthy players need to step up.
