Vegas Golden Knights Cody Eakin Goes to Winnipeg Jets
The Vegas Golden Knights completed a trade Friday, Februray 21, 2020 with the Winnipeg Jets. The Jets would acquire centre, Cody Eakin in exchange for a conditional fourth-round draft pick.
Key Players in Trade
In Cody Eakin, the Jets get a 28-year-old centre who has 20-goal potential as exhibited with his 22 tallies last season with the Vegas club. While not a prolific scorer, he can contribute at times making him a valuable asset.
What This Means for the Future
Cody Eakins needs to get out of his funk and perhaps this trade will get him going. Scoring just 10 points this season needs to improve. He did miss a month of play with an upper-body injury but is back now and will get another fresh start in Winnipeg. His possession number are not off the chart with a 49.5 Corsi For and a –3.4 Relative Corsi For at even strength. He averages 15:41 of ice time.
Eakin signed a four-year $15.4 million contract in August of 2015 while with the Dallas Stars and will be an unrestricted free agent on July 1, 2020. The Golden Knights obviously wanted to create some cap space to make some moves, and Eakin’s name came up.
He should add something to the Jets’ offence if given some ice time.
