As the playoffs draw closer, I’ll be doing a weekly fantasy hockey streamers piece to hopefully give you a slight edge. Each week, I’ll dive into the highly-coveted Friday-Sunday splits. Most weeks there is a wealth of opportunity to capitalize on some players who can give you two extra starts on light game nights. My Twitter (@jkj0787) is always open, so feel free to reach out!
Note: To be considered for this article, players must be owned in no more than 35 percent of Yahoo! fantasy hockey leagues.
Fantasy Hockey Weekend Streamers
Anaheim Ducks (Friday @TOR, Sunday @BUF)
Ondrej Kase – 4% Owned
There was a ton of hype surrounding winger Ondrej Kase before the season started. He still hasn’t lived up to it, but he’s at least trending up. Kase has eight points in his last 12 games, with 37 shots over that span. He sees power-play time but hasn’t been able to produce much (just one power-play point on the entire season).
Jakob Silfverberg – 19% Owned
Jakob Silfverberg is another winger option who sees good deployment. The points haven’t been there lately, but he’s a very capable scorer. Not too long ago, he put together a 10-point stretch over 13 games, with six goals in that time.
Max Jones – 0% Owned
If you’re looking for hits with an okay chance at some point production, Max Jones isn’t a bad option. Jones is good for a couple of shots and is averaging almost three hits a game over the last 14 days. His minutes aren’t terrible. Six to eight hits to close out a matchup could be a difference-maker.
Erik Gudbranson – 4% Owned
On defence, Erik Gudbranson is a solid option to bulk up your banger categories. In his last six games, Gudbranson has 11 shots, 10 hits, and 11 blocks. He even has seven PIMs if your league counts those.
Buffalo Sabres (Friday @NYR, Sunday ANA)
Jimmy Vesey – 1% Owned
Jimmy Vesey is probably the top streaming option in Buffalo right now. He’s seeing top-line action with superstar Jack Eichel, so that’s enough reason by itself. Vesey is coming off a goal in his last game, so why not try him out a couple of times and see if he can add to it.
Marcus Johansson – 4% Owned
Outside of Vesey, it’s very slim pickings. Marcus Johansson is at least getting second-line minutes and some power-play time, but he has one single point in his last 11 games. He shoots a little bit and will win a few faceoffs, but that’s about it.
Detroit Red Wings (Friday @CBJ, Sunday BOS)
Robby Fabbri – 6% Owned
Robby Fabbri has cooled down after his hot start with Detroit, but he’s still a worthwhile stream. It’s tough this weekend since Columbus and Boston are both hard to score on. If anyone other than Larkin or Bertuzzi is going to score, odds are it’ll be Fabbri. He had two helpers last time out and is good for a smattering of shots and hits as well.
Filip Hronek – 26% Owned
Defenceman Filip Hronek finally broke his pointless streak last game. If there’s a defender worth holding in Detroit, no doubt it’s Hronek. He fills all categories pretty consistently. But oh boy is that plus-minus bad. Still, in his last 11 games, he has 20 shots, 21 hits, 21 PIMs, and 10 blocks.
Minnesota Wild (Friday @DAL, Sunday COL)
Kevin Fiala – 7% Owned
It would be nice if Kevin Fiala could get some more minutes. What he’s doing with only 14:34 average time-on-ice is impressive. Fiala is scoring 2.7 points per 60 minutes and is firing 9.2 shots per 60 minutes. Those are excellent ratios. He has three goals and 10 shots in his last two.
Jared Spurgeon – 17% Owned
Jared Spurgeon is a solid option on defence. Lately, Spurgeon has seen time on the top even-strength pairing and also on the top power play. He’s a good category-filler – two goals, three assists, four power-play points, 18 shots, eight hits, and nine blocks in his last seven.
Jonas Brodin – 2% Owned
Another defensive option for bangers is Jonas Brodin. He has 19 assists on the season, but he also shoots at a decent clip for a defenceman. Also, he’s averaging two blocks per game in his last 10.
New York Rangers (Friday BUF, Sunday LA)
Pavel Buchnevich – 18% Owned
The Rangers will have played four off-night games this week. It doesn’t get any better than that for streaming. And to cap it all off, they play two bad teams to close out the week. Pavel Buchnevich is the best streamer to own right now. His stock is rising quickly now that he’s back with Mika Zibanejad and Chris Kreider. Buchnevich has six points in his last five. He gets power-play time and shoots a good amount. He’ll even toss some hits in for you.
Jesper Fast – 2% Owned
Jesper Fast is another forward who could help you win some categories. Fast has been playing with superstar Artemi Panarin mostly, so the opportunity for points is always there. Fast doesn’t shoot much, though he throws his body around, averaging more than two hits and one block per game in his last 10.
Brendan Lemieux – 9% Owned
Brendan Lemieux can score, but most of his value comes in the hit department – he has 17 in his last three games alone. Two games ago he had two power-play points, but those have been his only points in six games since returning from injury. And don’t forget about the PIM potential, either – he has 89 already this season.
Brady Skjei – 12% Owned
Rounding out this week’s fantasy hockey streamers weekend edition is Brady Skjei. Skjei is another banger category-filler who could help your defence. In his last 10 games, he has four points, 20 shots, 20 hits, and 18 blocks.
