The boys open the show with the big news of the weekend. In a surprise turn of events, the New Jersey Devils fired general manager Ray Shero prior to their game against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday. This move sent shockwaves through the NHL. It was a surprise turn of events, to say the least. With ownership not happy with the results on the ice, they decided to make a change at the position. With ownership giving a specific reason, Jim asks the question why now? He also brings up several other questions as to why ownership decided to let Shero and what led up to his firing. The boys also give out their grades for the time Shero has been in New Jersey

Tom Fitzgerald and Martin Brodeur Taking Over

Jersey Joe then talks about what is new for the Devils. He mentions how Tom Fitzgerald will be the interim general manager and Martin Brodeur will be an advisor to and for hockey operations. The boys go into a discussion about the positives and negatives of this decision. Along with a discussion about who the candidates for the general manager’s position might be for the future. As a matter of fact, this could be a test run for Fitzgerald as well as Brodeur.

Team Performance

With Alain Nasreddine taking over the head coaching duties from John Hynes, the Devils have shown significant improvements. With a record of 8-8-3, the Devils are turning into the team Ray Shero had envisioned before he was fired. They are playing more of a team style and not relying on one individual to carry the team. Players like Nico Hischier, Jesper Bratt, Kyle Palmieri, Nikita Gusev, and others have really stepped up their game. The Devils are playing like the team everyone expected them to at the beginning of the season. The boys discuss does Nasreddine’s style fits in with the vision of Fitzgerald and ownership.

The boys close the show talking about the upcoming show as they will have a special guest along with the plans that lie ahead for the podcast going forward.
