Christmas came early for fans of the NHL. Jersey Joe Stanislau and Jim Biringer from lastwordonhockey.com are back with a special edition of the Jersey Joe Corner podcast. In this episode, the breakdown of the Taylor Hall trade, how this trade makes the Arizona Coyotes better, what this trade does for the New Jersey Devils, along with so much more.
New Jersey Devils Move On
Taylor Hall Traded To Arizona
The long wait is finally over as the boys breakdown the trade that sent Taylor Hall from the New Jersey Devils to Arizona Coyotes. The boys start from the beginning and how it got to this point on Monday. Jim gives the listeners what the trade entails as details were flying in throughout the show. In the trade, the Devils sent along with Hall, Blake Speers to the Coyotes, for Kevin Bahl, Nick Merkley, and Nate Schnarr. New Jersey also received a conditional 1st Rd 2020 pick and conditional 3rd Rd 2021 pick. In addition, the Devils retained 50 percent of Hall’s salary. Joe then breaks down each of the players the Devils will be receiving.
Adding Offence
Even though the Coyotes sit near the top of the Pacific Division, they are still having issues scoring. Trading for Hall appears to be a rental move for now. However, adding Hall will open up things for Phil Kessel, Clayton Keller, Nick Schmaltz, and Conor Garland. As Jim mentions, Kessel always had someone to take the attention away from himself in Pittsburgh. Having Hall will free up Kessel, which makes the Coyotes a very dangerous team going forward.
Getting Back to a Team First Game
The boys then discuss how the Devils can get back to playing a team-first game after not having a distraction in the lineup. Jim and Joe both agree that Hall has been a distraction in the locker room. Jim brings up the games on Friday against the Colorado Avalanche and Saturday against the Arizona Coyotes. The Devils played like a team and did not force the puck to just one player. They were free and playing loose. Joe mentions how this team will be better off in the long run.
The boys then close out the show discussing the three-game suspension handed out by the Department of Player Safety to Philadelphia Flyers Joel Farabee for his hit on Winnipeg Jets player Mathieu Perreault.
