Travis Konecny; NHL Rumours

The Philadelphia Flyers announced that their leader in scoring, forward Travis Konecny is sidelined indefinitely with a concussion.

With a little over two minutes left in the first period on Saturday night, Ottawa Senators defenceman Mark Borowiecki leveled Konecny at center ice.

Coming out of the defensive zone, Flyers defenceman Justin Braun rifled a pass towards Konecny at the red line. Konecny then tried to deflect the pass deep into their offensive zone. At that point, Borowiecki decided to put him flat on the ice instead.

So far this season, Konecny has scored 11 goals and 17 assists for 28 points to go along with eight minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 60 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of 11.2.

Over his four-year NHL career, Konecny has played for the only Philadelphia Flyers. The Flyers drafted him 24th overall in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. Since then, he has 70 goals and 82 assists for 152 career points in 263 career games.

Flyer’s Coach Alain Vigneault was quoted on the team’s twitter account on missing Travis Konecny.

What This Means for the Future

The Flyers have been playing well as of late. Holding onto the third spot in the Metropolitan Division, the Flyers have been impressive in their last 10 games. They’ve posted a 7-2-1 record. It will be interesting to see how the Flyers are able to move forward from here without their leading scorer.

With that said, Konecny was producing both 5-on-5 and on the power-play. With his absence, the Flyers will have some big shoes to fill. The Flyers have also listed forwards Joel Farabee and Oskar Lindblom both being out for a little bit of time as well. Nothing serious to report there.
