Detroit Red Wings Anthony Mantha Out Indefinitely

Anthony Mantha; NHL Rumours

The Detroit Red Wings announced that winger Anthony Mantha will miss an unspecified amount of time with a lower-body injury. Mantha has already been ruled out for today’s game vs Carolina Hurricanes.

Anthony Mantha Injured

Mantha left Saturday night’s game vs New Jersey Devils after playing 3:03 in the first period. It’s unclear what play caused his injury.

So far this season, Mantha has scored 12 goals and 11 assists for 23 points to go along with 18 minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 55.0 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of +9.7.

Mantha has spent his entire five-year career with the Red Wings after being the 2013 NHL Draft 20th overall selection. He has 80 goals and 78 assists for 158 career points in 242 career games.

What This Means for the Future

Over the past two years, Mantha has developed into a guy who will put up around 25 goals a year. With Mantha out of action expect Andreas Athanasiou to move up to the top line as he did last night after Mantha left the game. Mantha not only brings scoring to the Wings line-up but also brings size at 6’5″. The Red Wings will have trouble finding someone who brings what Mantha brings to the team. It will be interesting to see how the Red Wings perform without Mantha in their line-up.

The Red Wings have been hit with the injury bug as Mike Green missed Saturday’s game with an upper-body injury. Green has one goal and three assists for four points in 19 games this season. His status for Saturday’s game is unknown. He was a game-time decision last night. There is a good chance that he will be back in the Red Wings lineup tonight.
