The Toronto Maple Leafs announced left winger Trevor Moore is day-to-day with a shoulder injury. He has already been ruled out for the Leafs game against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Trevor Moore Injured
Moore left the game against the Boston Bruins on Friday after a collision with Bruins forward Chris Wagner. Moore and Wagner collided in the neutral zone, with Moore clearly taking the brunt of the hit.
So far this season, Moore has scored three goals and two assists for five points to go along with six minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 50.1 percent Corsi For and a relative Corsi of -4.1.
Over his two-year NHL career, Moore has played solely for the Maple Leafs. He has five goals and eight assists for 13 career points in 46 career games. Moore went undrafted but had a very solid collegiate hockey career with the University of Denver. In his final season with the Pioneers, he scored 11 goals and added 33 assists for 44 points in 40 games played. His play caught the attention of the Maple Leafs and they signed him to an entry-level deal after the 2015-16 season.
What This Means for the Future
With Moore out, Nic Petan will most likely draw back into the lineup. Petan will need to play the grinding style that Moore brought to the lineup every night. This is a great opportunity for Petan to prove to the Leafs and potentially another team that he belongs in the NHL. The Leafs have already made it known that they would be willing to move on from Petan.
The Leafs have been struggling mightily over the past few games and their schedule does not get easier. They will hit the road for the next seven games, starting against the Penguins and ending with the Buffalo Sabres. They will look to get the ball rolling so they can keep even with the top teams in the always competitive Atlantic Division.
