Edmonton Oilers Place Brandon Manning on Injured Reserve

The Edmonton Oilers have announced that defenceman Brandon Manning will be placed on injured reserve with a hand injury. Caleb Jones has been called up from the Bakersfield Condors to fill the roster spot.

Brandon Manning Injured

On Tuesday night, the Oilers visited California to face-off with the San Jose Sharks. Towards the end of the second period, Connor McDavid was clipped in the neutral zone by Sharks forward Tomas Hertl. Shortly after, the Oilers players began to seek payback on Hertl causing a scrum.

From the scrum, a fight broke out between Barclay Goodrow and Manning. With a slow start, Manning was able to get off two quick jabs at Goodrow. Shortly after Goodrow was able to respond with a few uppercuts of his own. After that, the men wrestled each other to the ice where the linesman had to take two attempts at stopping the fight.

So far this season, Manning has scored one goal and zero assists for one point to go along with 17 minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 46 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of -3.3.

Over his eight-year NHL career, Manning has played for the Edmonton Oilers, Chicago Blackhawks and Philadelphia Flyers. He has 14 goals and 34 assists for 48 career points in 255 career games. He was originally signed by the Philadelphia Flyers during the 2010-11 season.

What This Means for the Future

With Manning out. The Oilers have recalled defenceman Jones from the Bakersfield in the AHL. The Oilers drafted Jones in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft in the fourth round, 117th overall. Since then, Jones has since played 124 games for the Condors, recording ten goals and 46 assists for 56 points. Jones has also seen some ice time with the Oilers, playing 17 games with 6 points.

Manning looks as if he could be back as soon as Nov. 19th when the Oilers return to San Jose to take on the Sharks.
