NHL Predictions
Detroit Red Wings vs. New York Rangers
Head-to-Head: Red Wings 0-0 Rangers
At Madison Square Garden tonight, it’s the Wednesday Night Hockey featuring the New York Rangers hosting the Detroit Red Wings. While this is an Original Six rivalry game, currently, it seems more just like a battle at the bottom of the NHL standings. The Red Wings are dead-last in the Eastern Conference with nine points, the Rangers, on the other hand, have only 11 points.
A whole lot more has been expected from the Rangers going into this season. Not so much from Detroit. The Rangers had some impressive wins last week, beating the Tampa Bay Lightning and beat the Nashville Predators on Saturday. However, on Monday, they had another early-season rough night as the Ottawa Senators beat them 6-2 at the Broadway. On the same Monday night, at Little Caesars Arena, the Red Wings lost 6-1 to the Predators.
Both teams will try to forget what happened on Monday and bounce back tonight. The Rangers will travel to Raleigh to face the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday. The Red Wings will have an off-day tomorrow. In their last head-to-head meeting in March, the Red Wings beat the Rangers in New York. In their last four head-to-head contests at the Garden, Detroit went 3-0-1, although they have lost six straight road games as of now. However, the Rangers are the favourites to claim victory tonight.
Prediction: Rangers win 4-2.
St. Louis Blues vs. Edmonton Oilers
Head-to-Head: Blues 0-0 Oilers
The Oilers will host the reigning Stanley Cup champions, the Blues tonight at Rogers Place. It’s the battle of the two top teams in the Western Conference. Both Blues and the Oilers currently lead their respective divisions. The Blues, the present Western Conference leaders, possess a five-game winning streak, after beating the Vancouver Canucks in Vancouver last night. This is going to be a back-to-back contest for St. Louis.
Edmonton has lost at home in overtime on Monday, facing the Arizona Coyotes. After a perfect start, the Oilers have had an inconsistent run of the last eight games with only three victories. They have lost their last two home games. These two teams have faced each other four times at the Rogers Place, with both wins for either side.
Edmonton will rely, once again, on the dynamic duo of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, who has 24, and 27 points respectively. The most in-form player on the side of the visiting team is Ryan O´Reilly. Given the fact that the Blues play on the road on back-to-back nights, the Oilers are slight favorites to obtain two points on Wednesday night.
Prediction: Edmonton wins 4-3 in overtime.
