The Vancouver Canucks announced that forward Micheal Ferland is being placed on the injured reserve with an upper-body injury. Sven Baertschi has been recalled in his place.

Micheal Ferland Injured
Although not confirmed, it is believed that the injury occurred on Wednesday night during a fight with the Los Angeles Kings Kyle Clifford. It saw Ferland leave the ice and not return.
So far this season, Ferland has scored one goal and four assists for five points to go along with seven minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 39.4 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of -14.3.
Over his six-year NHL career, Ferland has played for the Calgary Flames, Carolina Hurricanes and most recently, Vancouver Canucks. He has 60 goals and 74 assists for 134 career points in 333 career games. He was originally drafted by the Calgary Flames in the fifth round, 133rd overall in the 2010 NHL draft.
What This Means for the Future
The 27-year-old is a solid bottom-six forward, who provides physicality for the Canucks. The Canadian native played 71 games last season with the Caines and had consistent minutes throughout their playoff run. Ferland gives the Canucks valued experience and has good chemistry with Brandon Sutter and Josh Leivo on the third line.
Sven Baertschi is set to replace him in the lineup for the time being. He needs to prove to Vancouver he belongs as he was a surprise waiver player this season. With Utica, this season the 27-year old has two goals and eight assists for ten points in seven games.
The Canucks currently sit second in the Pacific Division and have won four out of the last five games. They play the Anaheim Ducks on Friday Night. But will need to be at full strength to beat the hot Ducks at Honda Center.
