Ryan Murray and Texier on Injured Reserve
The second overall in the 2012 NHL draft, Ryan Murray has dealt with injury problems. During the Blue Jackets 7-4 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers, Murray suffered a broken hand. He is expected to miss three to four weeks. Through 10 games this season, Murray has four points (a goal and three assists). In 330 career games, he has 105 points (14 goals and 91 points). He has been a solid player but maybe not that of a second overall pick.
Murray is not the only one dealing with an injury. Texier will miss two to four weeks with a knee injury he suffered in Saturday night’s game against the Flyers. Texier injury occurred when Flyers forward Chris Stewart fell awkwardly on his leg, left the ice and did not return. In 11 games with the Blues Jackets this season, Texier has three points (two goals and one assist).
Looking Ahead
Once the Blue Jackets lost Texier against the Flyers the team had to play with 11 forwards. With the Blue Jackets’ next game not until Wednesday against the Edmonton Oilers, they have time to figure out their lineup. Jakob Lilja, who has been a healthy scratch of late, will enter the lineup. Even with 12 healthy forwards, the Blue Jackets will want an extra player up. One has to figure with three games in four nights, the Blue Jackets will want an extra forward player on reserve. It seems likely a forward would come up before a defenceman.
On defence, the team got good news as Markus Nutivaara returned to practice. For now, the Blue Jackets will not need to dip into the AHL. The Blue Jackets currently have seven healthy defensemen.
