The Boston Bruins announced that forward Karson Kuhlman is out at least a month with a hairline nondisplaced fracture of his right tibia.

Kuhlman Out At Least Four Weeks

Soon after the Bruins 4-2 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs, general manager Don Sweeney gave an update on the Kuhlman. Kuhlman’s injury occurred against this same Maple Leafs team on Saturday, October 19th. Kuhlman was spotted on crutches prior to the Bruins morning skate on Tuesday. While there is no timetable for his return, Kuhlman will be re-evaluated in approximately four weeks.

Through eight games this season Kuhlman has not registered a point for the Bruins. Last season with the Bruins, Kuhlman played 11 games and had five points (three goals and two assists). Kuhlman made his way into the lineup for the Bruins in the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs. During eight games, he had three points (one goal and two assists). His goal was pivotal as it kept the Bruins alive in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final. Kuhlman also provided depth to the Bruins roster.

Going Forward

With Kuhlman out at least four weeks, he could be placed on IR very soon. The Bruins depth is being tested early in the season. With David Krejci on IR and Joakim Nordstrom out of the lineup, the Bruins had to recall Anders Bjork from the AHL. With Nordstrom back practicing with the team, look for Bjork to get every opportunity to remain in the lineup. There is potential for Nordstrom to get back into the lineup with Kuhlman out for an extended period of time.

The Bruins enter the season again with a lot of depth with the additions of Brett Ritchie and Par Lindholm. Those players have been great signings for the Bruins this season. These two players will see their ice time increase with the injuries to Krejci, Nordstrom, and Kuhlman. Also, do not be surprised to see another call from Providence just to have additional reinforcements.
