The Buffalo Sabres announced that winger Conor Sheary is out week-to-week with an upper-body injury.

Conor Sheary Injured
This is a big loss for a Sabres team that has started strong this season. It’s unknown when Sheary sustained the injury.
So far this season in three games, Sheary has scored two goals and one assist for three points to go along with two minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 49.1 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of -5.5%.
Over his five-year NHL career, Sheary has played for the Pittsburgh Penguins in addition to the Sabres. He has 64 goals and 66 assists for 130 career points in 265 career games. Sheary, a two-time Stanley Cup champion with Pittsburgh, went undrafted.
What This Means for the Future
The Buffalo Sabres Conor Sheary has started the season on a point-per-game pace, performing very well through his first three games. Buffalo needs depth scoring if they want to make a run at a playoff spot this season, and Sheary provides just that. While the Sabres have other names like rookie Victor Olofsson playing great hockey as well right now, Sheary is an established player in this league with playoff experience. His role on the team is not a small one.
The key to Buffalo’s success this season is to stay healthy. While they have a good core and some solid depth scoring, they don’t have quite enough depth to fill in the gap in case of a longer-term absence. Hopefully, for the Sabres, Sheary can get back into game action quickly. Chemistry is a powerful thing for a team trying to achieve success, and Sheary certainly contributed to the team chemistry that Buffalo has found early on. A shorter-term absence like this, however, may not affect the team too much.
