Montreal Canadiens Nick Cousins Day-To-Day With Lower-Body Injury

The Montreal Canadiens announced that center Nick Cousins is day-to-day with a lower-body injury. Additionally, he will not be making the trip to Buffalo with the team.

Nick Cousins Leaves Practice Early

Cousins was on the ice for the morning skate but apparently left with a lower-body injury. We now know it is his back that is giving him trouble. He is listed as day-to-day, however, will not travel with the team.

The Belleville, Ontario native has been a healthy scratch in the first two regular-season games this year for the Canadiens. Cousins had a goal and an assist for two points in four pre-season games.

Over his five-year NHL career, Cousins has played for the Philadelphia Flyers, Arizona Coyotes and Montreal Canadiens. He has 31 and 42 assists for 73 career points in 259 career games. Additionally, he has 103 penalty minutes in those games.

What This Means for the Future

Cousins was signed to a one-year deal in the off-season. He is expected to by a guy who is a filler on the fourth line on occasion. He played 80 games with Arizona, however, is more likely to see around 40 this year with the Habs. Possibly more or less due to injuries on the team. Cousins is also coming off a career year where he put up seven goals and 20 assists for 27 points last season in those 80 games for Arizona. He adds versatility to a very young habs team that could use depth this season.

Now that Cousins is injured the Habs may be tempted to call up Ryan Poehling who didn’t crack the opening night line-up. Poehling, however, did miss time in the pre-season after suffering a concussion. It wouldn’t be a shock if Poehling ends up taking Nate Thompson‘s spot in the line-up.
