New Jersey Devils Final Roster

The Boys open the show talking about the final roster for the 2019-20 season. Neither was surprised that Ty Smith was sent back to his junior team in Spokane. Smith did not show to the coaching staff the necessary improvement to make the club out of training camp. The team was hoping he could take the next step in his development. Jim brings up the point about how the Devils are getting back to drafting and developing their players. There is no need to rush players along and have another player go through what Adam Larsson went through.

Winnipeg Jets Defence

Joe than transitions to opening night for the Devils as they take on the Winnipeg Jets. The Jets were on the back end of a back-to-back. First, the Jets took on the New York Rangers. The boys talk about how the Devils need to take advantage of a depleted defence for Winnipeg. Though Jim mentions the game will not be as easy as everyone thinks. The Jets are still a good team and Laurent Brossoit can steal games.

Latest on Taylor Hall

Jim brings up the topic of the ongoing discussions about Taylor Hall’s new contract with the Devils. As Bob McKenzie reported earlier in the week, he has given his agent the “green light” to negotiate a new deal. Frank Seravalli of TSN reports it could be an eight-year deal worth $88 million. While no details or numbers have been given, this situation bears watching. Hall’s tune continuously changes week to week and if the Devils struggle does he go to July 1, see what is out there, and ultimately re-sign with the team?

Team and Player Predictions

Like on May Money with Jim Cramer, the boys held their first “Lightning Round.” Joe and Jim gave their rapid-fire point predictions for each player on the roster. Then they looked at the points total by goalies and where that would put them the team in the standings. Both feel the Devils are a playoff team this season or at least competing for one.

Jersey Joe and Jersey Jim also discuss the players in the running for the Calder Trophy, how goalie tandems are being used around the NHL, the New York Islanders new arena, and so much more hockey talk.
