Philadelphia Flyers Nolan Patrick To Miss Season Opener

Nolan Patrick

The Philadelphia Flyers announced that center Nolan Patrick will not travel to Europe for their season opener vs the Chicago Blackhawks. Patrick is considered week-to-week after being diagnosed with a migraine disorder. The Flyers plan to provide additional information on the injury once they return from Europe.

Nolan Patrick to Miss Season Opener

Patrick has been missing at training camp and the pre-season with the injury. However, Patrick has attended team meetings and video sessions.

Last season, Patrick scored 13 goals and 18 assists for 31 points to go along with 27 minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 46.8 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of -2.2

The 21-year-old centre has spent his first two years with the Flyers. He has 26 goals and 35 assists for 61 career points in 145 career games. He was originally drafted by the Flyers second overall in the 2017 NHL Draft.

What This Means for the Future

Patrick was on the ice skating today at the team’s practice facility but will not travel with the team to New York. The Winnipeg native has put up 13 goals in each of his past two seasons and is a key piece of the Flyers future moving forward. Patrick dealt with upper-body injuries last year that limited him to 72 games for the Flyers.

With Patrick now out of the line-up, Scott Laughton will likely fill in on the third line in Patrick’s absence. Laughton has put up two assists so far in three pre-season games. He played in all 82 games last year for Philly putting up 12 goals and 20 assists for 32 points. He also added 53 minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 44.0 percent Corsi with a relative Corsi of -6.1. Laughton has also spent his entire six-year career in Philly.

Expect the Flyers to be very cautious with Patrick and his injury moving forward.
