Columbus Blue Jackets Brandon Dubinsky Out Indefinitely With Wrist Injury

The Columbus Blue Jackets announced today that forward Brandon Dubinsky is out indefinitely with a wrist injury and will miss the start of the season.

Brandon Dubinsky Out Indefinitely

Brandon Dubinsky is entering his 13th season in the NHL and is entering his eighth season with the Blues Jackets.  In 823 games with the Blue Jackets and New York Rangers, he has registered 438 points (153 goals and 285 assists) along with 905 penalty minutes. Through three preseason games, he registered three assists with seven shots on goal. He also won 50 percent of his face-offs. While he practiced on Tuesday with the team, he did not practice today.

Last season, Dubinsky posted 14 points (six goals and eight assists) in 61 games with the Blue Jackets. In the team’s 10 playoff games last season, he had one goal.

Going Forward

Over the past couple of seasons, Dubinsky has been very injury prone and he is not getting any younger. In the previous two seasons with the Blue Jackets, he has failed to play in 65 games. Last season, Dubinsky missed time with a lower-body injury. He is signed through next season at a $5.85 million cap hit, the second-highest on the team.

Going back to his days with the Rangers, Dubinsky has been one of those John Tortorella type players. However, Dubinsky cannot play in a top-six role anymore. As it stands right now he has been relegated to a bottom-six forward. Missing the start of the regular season will hurt his game and at his age coming back from a wrist injury will not be easy. It may be tough for Dubinsky to score more than 20-25 points this season. Look for one of the bubble players like Riley Nash to take advantage of this opportunity.
