NHL Player Signings: Real Hockey Talk Podcast #13

NHL player signings

This week’s show was broadcast from Dave & Buster’s – Desert Ridge in Phoenix, AZ. Along with Dave Isaac, Greg Isaac, and William Grigsby from lastwordonhockey.com this is podcast #13 for your listening pleasure.

NHL Player Signings

Real Hockey Talk Podcast #13

After some technical difficulties, we got going a bit late with the show. Dave starts us out with some “what happened this day in NHL history”. As usual, Dave stumps us, except for Greg who showed off his trivia skills. William just couldn’t get any right.

We go over some NHL player signings including Joe Thornton of the San Jose Sharks who signed a one-year deal for $2 million. We discuss if this will be enough to help the Sharks continue as a playoff team even without their former captain Joe Pavelski.

Then, Clayton Keller of the Arizona Coyotes also was surprisingly signed to an eight-year $57.2 million pact. General manager John Chayka added Keller’s name to the growing list of young players being locked up long-term. They are setting themselves up to have the nuclei of players signed to take them down the path of success.

Another player who FINALLY got signed was Jake Gardiner who was inked to a four-year deal for $4.05 million a year by the Carolina Hurricanes. This loads up the ‘Canes roster and they may even be able to now go after someone like Patrik Laine who is yet to be signed. Will the Hurricanes try to move a defenceman to acquire the signing rights for Laine?

The last signing we covered was Brendan Perlini of the Chicago Blackhawks. He got a one-year deal for $874,125 to stay in Chicago.

NHL Favorite Dramatic Moments

William gives us some examples from a segment he’s calling “twitter delight.” It’s from a hashtag created by Emily Goldstein called #NHLSoapOperaChallenge where everyone states their favorite dramatic moment in the NHL.

A sample of one we shared was, Dustin Byfuglien throwing Evander Kane’s tracksuit in the shower because he violated the team dress code.

Another good example was, Evgeny Kuznetsov, stating he’d never do cocaine after being caught in a video involving cocaine. After stating he’d do a drug test and then failing the drug test… due to cocaine!

Chris From Dave & Buster’s

The final segment of the show finds us chatting with Chris who is the assistant general manager at Dave & Buster’s. He fills us in on all the family activities like video games, bowling, and billiards to keep everyone having fun.

We found out that Chris is originally from Philadelphia. The cold and snow there convinced him to move to Phoenix. So, the obvious question came up as to whether he was still a Philadelphia Flyers fan or now converted to a Coyotes fan. Tune in to hear his response.
