Longtime Boston Bruins owner Jeremy Jacobs has decided to take a step back from the NHL. The Boston Bruins ownership will remain within the Jacobs family, as his six children will be taking over team operations.

Boston Bruins Ownership Changes Made
In an interview with the Boston Globe, Jacobs said, “I have given it to my kids. They are paying me some of the proceeds that come out of this. It happened this year. This was done on the basis that the longevity is going to continue in the hands of the Jacobs children, and the next generation will have it”
Jacobs is revered by many fans for the success of the original six franchise during his tenure as the owner.
Jeremy Jacobs purchased the Boston Bruins in 1975 for $10 million. The team is now expected to be worth $302 million.
Since taking over ownership, Jacobs has overseen the drafting and acquisition of cornerstone players. Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand, and Zdeno Chara are among some of those still playing today.
The team has also won 15 division titles, five Eastern Conference Championships, two President’s Trophies, and one Stanley Cup Championship in Jacobs’ tenure.
Boston sports fans have been spoiled by the winning ways of their professional franchises. Fans will surely hope that the Jacobs children can continue the trend. The Bruins are currently coming off of a Game Seven loss to the St. Louis Blues in the Stanley Cup Finals.
While the impact of Jeremy Jacobs on this franchise is sure to be felt for years to come, only time will tell if the new ownership will continue to make the right moves. Charlie Jacobs will likely play a big part of the new ownership group. He has been a key piece of the front office since 2000. Charlie Jacobs was also responsible for the hiring of Peter Chiarelli as general manager, and Cam Neely as team Vice President. Both hires followed the 2005-06 season.
