The New York Islanders announced on Wednesday that they have re-signed free-agent forward Anthony Beauvillier to a two-year deal.

Anthony Beauvillier Inks New Deal with New York Islanders
Over his 3-year NHL career, Beauvillier has strictly played for the New York Islanders. The 5’11”, 182 pound left-wing has put up 48 goals and 40 assists for 88 points in 218 career games. He has added 34 penalty minutes. He was originally drafted in the first round, 28th overall, by the Islanders in the 2015 NHL Draft. The Quebec native has averaged 14:07 of ice time per game, which has increased every season so far. His career possession numbers are 48 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of 0.4.
Last season, he scored 18 goals and added 10 assists for 28 points in 81 games with the Islanders. He also added eight penalty minutes. He averaged the most time per game last season with 14:39 per game. His possession numbers were 49.7 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of 2.5.
What This Means For the Future
Beauvillier spent the majority of the season on the second line with Anders Lee and Valtteri Filppula. Both are more experienced NHL players. With help from his linemates and the rest of the team, Beauvillier can only continue to get better like he has his last two NHL seasons. Next time he is due for a new contract, he just might earn himself more money.
Beauvillier ended last year on a tear, forming a tremendous trio alongside Mathew Barzal and Jordan Eberle. He will undoubtedly get another chance to rekindle that flame this upcoming season, likely to see top-six minutes. He is one of New York’s top prospects and seemed poised for NHL stardom during the latter half of last season. This two-year deal could be what carries the 22-year-old Beauvillier through his ‘prove your worth’ years and straight into the arms of a much bigger contract. That is, if he can prove his worth.
