Real Hockey Talk Podcast #8: Joe Pavelski Hit Controversy
Hour One of the Show
We discuss the upcoming season and the prospects tournament with the San Jose Sharks, Los Angeles Kings, Arizona Coyotes, and the Colorado Avalanche. The pre-season is soon to be upon us as the Coyotes will have their first pre-season game on September 15th against the Vegas Golden Knights in Vegas.
In our weekly segment called “what have I learned”, Dave covers the 10 most bizarre sports. Ever heard of underwater hockey? Octapush? Dave explains it all to us.
William gives his take on the announcement that Alex Meruelo taking over officially as the new Coyotes owner. How will his pledge to give it his all to make the team successful and keep them here in the Valley work out?
We all analyze how there is still a multitude of free agents yet to sign contracts. Will Mitch Marner, Matthew Tkachuk, Patrik Laine, Brayden Point, and Jake Gardiner finally come to terms? It almost seems that many of these contract negotiations are being held up waiting to see what others get in their deals.
Second Hour of the Show-Joe Pavelski Hit Controversy
We go over the Anaheim Ducks chances for next season and what they must do to make the playoffs.
Zeke Leo joins us via phone to help us understand his viewpoint on the Joe Pavelski hit controversy. Zeke wrote a four-part series covering player safety (or the lack thereof) and the officiating challenges that occurred in the playoffs.
We break down the actual hit on Pavelski and the events leading up to the hit that put him down with a head and hand injury. Dave disagrees with Zeke’s description of the hit and whether it was an intentional take-down. The debate is spirited and of course, with Zeke being a San Jose Sharks fan and Dave being a Vegas Golden Knights fan, the passion is there in support of both teams.
Last Hour of the Show
We have Xochilt, a representative from Kabuki who fills us in on the restaurant hours, menu choices and tells us more about her background.
We continue our analysis of the Ducks and how they may do. Will they be able to improve in the tough Pacific Division? What about Martin Jones in the net? Who won the Dylan Strome and Brendan Perlini for Nick Schmaltz trade?
