News broke earlier that forward Vladislav Kamenev has signed a one-year deal with the Colorado Avalanche. He was a restricted free agent. Financial terms of the contract have not been released. If given a qualifying offer, Kamenev would become a restricted free agent again next summer. The team announced the signing on their official twitter account.

Over his three-year NHL career, Kamenev has played for the Avalanche and Nashville Predators. He has put up two goals and three assists for five career points in 28 career games. He was originally drafted in the 2nd round, 42nd overall of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft by the Predators. Kamenev was part of the three-way trade that sent Matt Duchene to the Ottawa Senators and Kyle Turris to Nashville.
Last season he scored two goals and five points in 23 games. He also added 10 minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 43.5 percent Corsi-For and a relative Corsi of -6.1.
What This Means for Kamenev and the Avalanche
Kamenev’s career has not gone according to plan. He has suffered season-ending injuries each of the past two seasons. Those have limited him to just 28 career NHL games. 2018-19 was his most productive year by far with five points in 23 games. He had looked comfortable on the fourth line and penalty kill before getting hurt.
Kamenev will likely be scratched regularly in 2019-20. The team went out and acquired Pierre-Edouard Bellemare as a more stable presence on the bottom-six and an experienced penalty killer. There will certainly be opportunities for Kamenev, who stands 6-foot-2 and weighs 194 pounds, but health is a major concern at this point. If he can stay healthy and takes advantage of his opportunities, he can move up the lineup.
