The Montreal Canadiens have agreed to terms to re-sign winger Charles Hudon. He signed for a one-year, $800,000 contract that carries him through the end of the 2019-20 season. Hudon was one of the few free agents Montreal had left to sign.

Habs Sign Charles Hudon
Over his 4-year NHL career, Hudon has played only for Canadiens. He has put up 13 goals and 26 assists for 39 career points in 110 career games. He was originally drafted in the 5th round, 122nd overall of the 2012 NHL draft by the Montreal Canadiens.
Last season he scored 3 goals and 2 assists for 5 points in just 32 games played last season. He also added 16 minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 48.6 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of -7.0 in those 32 games.
What This Means for the Future
Hudon has been talked about in trade rumours for quite some time now for the Canadiens, but signing a one-year deal wouldn’t remove him from the trade block. Hudon has struggled recently and was a healthy scratch for most of last season. The Canadiens could hope to either trade Hudon this off-season or hope to see more from him.
Hudon will aim to get more playing time in the NHL. Earlier this season he was not happy about being a healthy scratch, so he’ll have something to prove if he makes it through the summer in the Canadiens organization.
With the Canadiens so good at 5v5, Hudon will have to improve to be relevant on this team or hope he gets traded if it’s not looking like he’ll get the playing time he wants. Hudon showed promise in 2017-18 when he posted 30 points in his first full season in the NHL, but he’ll have to get back to that to play again.
