He re-signs with the Avalanche for four years and his new contract is worth $14 million or $3.5 million AAV. The versatile forward was selected in the second round, 35th overall, at the 2013 NHL Draft by the Buffalo Sabres. However, he has never played any games for the Sabres. In 2015, Compher was part of a trade that featured centre Ryan O’Reilly going to Buffalo. The Avalanche acquired J.T. Compher alongside another current roster play, Nikita Zadorov.

In 2016, Compher signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Avalanche. He has skated in 156 games with the Avalanche so far. The 24-year-old forward has scored 32 goals and 28 assists for 60 career points. He has also made the playoffs twice with the Avalanche. In his first postseason, he has three assists in six games. During the past spring, he has appeared in all 12 games with Colorado gathering four goals and two assists for six points.

J.T. Compher has found his home in Colorado and he has certainly impressed the Avalanche so far. He came up clutch in an elimination Game 6 at home against the San Jose Sharks in the second round. He scored two goals and added an assist for the only three-point night of his young playoff career. The American native has logged 16:29 of ice time per game on average throughout his career.

Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar has seen potential in Compher. This past season, Bednar gave him plenty of opportunities and Compher did not disappoint. With 32 points in the regular season and other six in the postseason, it was a career year. Both he and the Avalanche will hope to continue this progress with the signing of this new deal.
