Los Angeles Kings Re-Sign Matt Roy Amongst Others

Matt Roy

The Los Angeles Kings have decided to keep their young defenceman, Matt Roy. Roy signed a two-year contract worth $700,000 per season, among other signings. In the first year, it´s a two-way deal, it´s a one-way NHL contract for the 2020-21 season. Roy was about to become a restricted free agent this summer. The Kings have plenty of young defencemen in their system, but Matt Roy certainly showed his qualities last season.

The Kings also inked forward Michael Amadio to a two-year deal worth $700,000 per campaign. The contract for Amadio is the same as for Roy. Los Angeles re-signed defenceman Daniel Brickley to a two-year deal worth $700,000 per campaign. That´s a two-way deal for both of the seasons Brickley signed for. Forward Sheldon Rempal has accepted his qualifying offer and signed for a one-year two-way contract worth $874,125 per season.

Matt Roy Extends To Stay With the Los Angeles Kings

Matt Roy is the seventh-round, 194th overall selection in the 2015 NHL Draft by the Kings. Roy appeared in 115 games over three seasons with Michigan Tech, recording 55 points. He signed a two-year entry-level contract with the Kings in 2017 and he finished the 2016-2017 season with the Ontario Reign in the AHL.

During his three seasons with the Reign in the AHL, Roy skated in 102 games while collecting 47 points. In the past season, Roy got his chance to make his NHL debut with Los Angeles. He skated in 25 games over the past season with the Kings, in which he collected two goals and four assists for six points. The 24-year-old right-handed defenceman found his place on the Kings blue line late in the last season. In his 25 contest, he averaged 17:08 of the time on the ice and had 44,9% of CF%.

Michael Amadio has appeared in 80 games at the NHL level over the past two campaign. The young forward collected 10 goals and 21 points in those 80 starts. Daniel Brickley dressed for four games with the Kings in the past year.

What Does This Mean For The Future

The Kings have a ton of young and skilled defencemen. Alongside veterans and leaders like Drew Doughty or Alec Martinez, they have other younger blueliners as Paul LaDue, Kurtis MacDermid or Sean Walker. All of these guys appeared on the Kings roster over the past season. Roy was one who demonstrated his potential.

Los Angeles has ended as the last team in the Western Conference a season ago. They will surely hope that some of their youngsters on the defence have to take another step forward. Mainly Matt Roy and Michael Amadio seem like the guys to get some chance in the upcoming season.
