Cozens, who stands at 6’3″ tall and weighs180 lbs., was selected by the Sabres in the first round (seventh overall) of the 2019 NHL Draft in Vancouver.

The Whitehorse, Yukon native finished the 2018-19 season tied for 10th among all WHL skaters with 84 points with 34 goals and 50 assists in 68 games for the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

In his second full season with Lethbridge, Cozens also ranked in the top 10 among WHL skaters in even-strength assists with him finishing 10th with 34 assists and even-strength points with him being tied for eighth with 59 points.

Cozens also added eight points, four goals, and four assists, in seven playoff contests.

What This Means

Last Word On Hockey prospect guru Ben Kerr had nothing but complimentary things to say about Cozens in his scouting report.

The Sabres have themselves a right-handed forward that can play centre and right wing. The lad can play at both ends of the ice. Not to mention, Cozens has a wicked wrist shot that can paralyze a goalie when utilized. For a bigger player, Cozens can skate well and has a bit of speed to him. Although he may never challenge for a scoring title, he has a really good chance at becoming a first line centre.

By the sounds of things, the Sabres will look to ease Cozens into that role. By signing Cozens, that process has now started. It will be interesting to see what the Canadian can do in the years to come.
