New York Islanders Valtteri Filppula And Cal Clutterbuck Left Game Injured

The New York Islanders have a nightmare game right behind them. Not only they lost in a 5-0 fashion against the Boston Bruins, but the Islanders also lost two forwards in Valtteri Filppula and Cal Clutterbuck due to injuries. Both forwards left the game with an upper-body injury and did not return. The Islanders consider them day-to-day. However, Head Coach Barry Trotz could not provide further updated on them following the game.

Valtteri Filppula and Cal Clutterbuck Injured

Valtteri Filppula went down the tunnel in the first period. The Finnish veteran forward was hit hard by Bruins defenceman Connor Clifton and it appeared he levered his shoulder after the hit. He did not return to the game. The 35-year-old veteran has had a solid season on Long Island. Filppula has posted 15 goals and 14 assists for 29 points in 71 games with the Islanders.

Cal Clutterbuck was another part of the unfortunate evening for the New York Islanders. At the start of the second period, Clutterbuck made a nasty turnover which led to Noel Acciari burying one past Robin Lehner for a 2-0 Bruins lead. Later on, the 31-year-old veteran forward left the game with an upper-body injury. He is also considered day-to-day for the Islanders. Clutterbuck has recorded eight goals and 13 assists for 21 points during 64 games played this season. That´s already better than his numbers from the past couple of seasons on Long Island.

The Islanders Are Suffering From Injuries At a Bad Moment

It’s a very bad moment to suffer key injuries right before the playoffs. The Islanders dropped the first place in the Metropolitan Division with a loss to the Bruins. They have 91 points now, trailing the Washington Capitals by two points. The Islanders received forward Casey Cizikas back as he recovered from his lower-body injury.

Even Cizikas took a hard hit and had his right arm seemingly sore, but finished the game on Tuesday. The Islanders also have veteran defenceman Johnny Boychuk sidelined with an upper-body injury.
