The Dallas Stars announced that starting goaltender Ben Bishop has a lower-body injury. Bishop left the game Thursday against the Minnesota Wild with a lower-body injury. Anton Khudobin took over in net in the Stars 4-1 victory over the Wild. Bishop missed Friday night’s game against the Vegas Golden Knights.

Ben Bishop Injured

Bishop was going for his fourth straight shutout, but he left the game in the second period. His shutout streak of 230:53 is now the longest in franchise history. He passed Ed Belfour‘s record of 219:26 set in 2000. The Stars have not yet announced what play caused the injury.

So far this season, Bishop is 24-14-2. He has a .933 save percentage and a 2.05 goals-against-average.

Over his 10-year NHL career, Bishop has played for the St. Louis Blues, the Ottawa Senators, the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Los Angeles Kings and the Stars. He is 197-111-32 in his career with a .920 save percentage and a 2.32 goals-against-average. Originally, he was drafted by the Blues in the third round, 85th overall in the 2005 NHL Draft.

Bishop makes a huge difference in the playoffs. In his career, he has played in 36 playoff games for the Tampa Bay Lightning. He is 21-13-0. He has a .927 save percentage and a 2.09 goals-against-average in the playoffs. Bishop took the Lightning to the Stanley Cup Final in 2014-15 and the Conference Final in 2015-16.

What This Means For the Future

The Stars currently sit in third place in the Central Division. The Stars and the Blues are tied in points, but the Stars have one more regulation or overtime win. If they want to remain in a playoff spot, Khudobin has big skates to fill for however long Bishop is on the sidelines.
