San Jose Sharks defenceman Erik Karlsson left Tuesday’s game against the Boston Bruins. Karlsson, who is already experiencing health issues in the past weeks, reinjured his groin. The Swedish defenceman went down the tunnel immediately after an incident in the second period. He returned for a few minutes, but didn’t start the third period. Sharks head coach Peter DeBoer didn’t want to offer further comments on Karlsson’s injury.

Erik Karlsson Injured For The San Jose Sharks
Karlsson has already missed 12 games for the Sharks with groin problems. During a rush from Boston’s Charlie McAvoy, Karlsson seemingly re-injured his groin. The Bruins eventually won the game, 4-1. The last Bruins goal in the game came shorthanded when Brad Marchand easily got by Karlsson.
The Norris Trophy winner is in his first season with the Sharks after the trade from the Ottawa Senators last September. The 28-year-old defenceman has recorded 45 points in 52 games played with the Sharks over the current campaign. San Jose should be concerned with his injury problems as the playoffs near.
What Does That Mean For The Future
The Sharks are presently five points behind the Calgary Flames, who lead the Western Conference and the Pacific Division. San Jose is second with 82 points and the third-placed Golden Knights are 11 points behind them in the divisional race. The Sharks have no pressure whatsoever to rush their star defenceman to come back anytime soon.
“Well sure, any time somebody gets hurt there’s regret, but I really don’t know — same injury? Different injury? I have no idea what we’re dealing with yet. I can’t even make that call,” DeBoer said after the game. Karlsson declined to talk with the media after the game.
