The Carolina Hurricanes have announced that defencemen Justin Faulk and Calvin de Haan are day to day with upper-body injuries.

Justin Faulk and Calvin De Haan Injured

Faulk left last night’s game after putting in only 12 minutes of ice-time while de Haan finished the game. The Hurricanes are off until Friday, which will hopefully give both guys enough time to rest.

So far this season, Faulk has scored seven goals and 16 assists for 23 points to go along with 41 penalty minutes. His possession numbers were 53.8 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of -2.1 percent.

Faulk has spent his entire eight-year career with the Hurricanes. He has 81 goals and 165 assists for 246 career points in 540 career games. He was originally drafted by the Hurricanes in the second round, 37th overall in the 2010 NHL Draft.

Over his seven-year NHL career, de Haan has played for the New York Islanders and Carolina Hurricanes. He has 13 goals and 80 assists for 93 career points in 367 career games. He was originally drafted by the Islanders in the first round, 12th overall in the 2009 NHL Draft.

In his first season with the Hurricanes, de Haan has scored a goal and 11 assists for 12 points to go along with 18 minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 55.2 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of 0.0 percent.

What This Means for the Future

Faulk has played on the second pairing this season while de Haan is on the third. Faulk currently leads the team in assists. Both these guys are essential to the Hurricanes line-up and with Carolina currently fighting for the last wild card spot. Every game is important in this situation. With De Haan and Faulk day-to-day, the Hurricanes have called up Haydn Fleury and Jake Bean on an emergency basis. If both guys are unable to go Fleury and Bean will take their spots in the line-up.
