Winnipeg Jets Trade Nic Petan to the Toronto Maple Leafs for Par Lindholm
In Petan, the Leafs get a young forward who has shown talent in junior and the AHL but has not translated at the NHL level. Although this season he has not had a great chance to showcase those talents. In 13 games this season, he has two assists and picked up two penalty minutes. His possession numbers are 54.0 percent Corsi-for and a relative Corsi of +5.3. He was originally drafted in the 2nd round, 43rd overall of the 20013 NHL draft by the Jets. Over his limited four-year NHL career the 23-year-old has put up five goals and 18 assists for 23 career points in 108 career games.
Lindholm was signed as a free agent out of Sweden last summer. The 27-year-old has played centre and left wing in the Leafs bottom six this season. In 61 games, he has one goal and 11 assists. His possession numbers are 46.5 percent Corsi-For, with a relative Corsi of -5.7.
What This Means for the Future
With the Leafs, Petan should hopefully get a better chance to make an impact in the NHL. Currently deemed fourth line/press-box material, with the right opportunity Petan could produce points as he did with the Portland Winterhawks. The Leafs aim to give him a change of scenery and see if this can kickstart his raw talent.
The Jets get a defensively responsible player who they can trust in their bottom six in Lindholm. He adds depth and versatility to the team as they head down the stretch drive towards the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
