” Oh, so I haven’t been traded yet? OK, just checking.” Wayne Simmonds, right-wing – Philadelphia Flyers

Although Wayne Simmonds has been rumoured to be traded, he had two assists in this crazy 6-5 overtime win. The Philadelphia Flyers actually had a 5-1 lead at the 1:24 mark of the middle stanza only to allow the Detroit Red Wings back into the game.

Detroit scored four unanswered goals from that point on getting the tying goal with just seven seconds remaining. Anthony Mantha had the buzzer beater to break the Flyers’ heart.

But they came back in the overtime to win the game when Travis Konecny scored his 17th goal to be the hero.

With the trade deadline in just two days, Simmonds is still Flyer… for now.

” Can you please explain to me how we are losing to a team, not in the playoffs?” Jim Hiller, assistant coach, Toronto Maple Leafs

The Arizona Coyotes continued their reign over the Toronto Maple Leafs by shutting out the Toronto visitors 2-0. That means they shut down great offensive players like Auston Matthews (an Arizona native), John Tavares, and Mitch Marner.

Darcy Kuemper played well in net, but the Coyotes defence stopped most every Toronto rush with great clogging of center ice. Kuemper was only tested 22 times and stopped every puck. There was a goal called back by Toronto when it was ruled it was hit with a high stick.

The Coyotes showed more offense when Alex Galchenyuk opened the scoring with his 13th goal this season. He’s really been hot.

This win marked a 13-3-1 record for the Arizona club against Toronto. Some teams just have another team’s number. It certainly didn’t harm the Coyotes’ playoff aspirations.

” I knew I shouldn’t have had that Philly cheesesteak before the game… I’m not feeling too well.” Mika Zibanejad, center – New York Rangers

The New York Rangers may not have felt too well either as they dropped a 4-1 contest to the Minnesota Wild who ended their five-game losing streak. It kept the Wild in contention for the bunched up Western Conference wild-card spot.

However, the Rangers are not even close to a wild-card spot and are in a rebuild with stars like Kevin Hayes being rumored to be moved.

No rebuild is ever painless, but many Rangers’ fans must be wondering who will be left to carry this team next season.

Others rumored to be traded include Mats Zuccarello, Adam McQuaid, and Chris Kreider.

Minnesota will look for their third straight win on Sunday, Feb. 24th against the St. Louis Blues.

Good luck with that.

” And if you ever call my sister a name again you’ll be eating some more ice the next time we face each other.” Patrick Kane, right-wing – Chicago Blackhawks

Of course, with the way Patrick Kane is scoring with his 19-game scoring streak including 16 goals and 26 assists he demands a lot of respect. In this game, he tallied a tying goal late in the middle period but it wasn’t enough to get past the Colorado Avalanche who won 5-3.

Both teams are battling for a wild-card spot and with Chicago four back of Colorado who is tied with the Dallas Stars for the last wild-card spot. Every game will feel like a playoff game from here on out for these two teams.

” I can’t believe we lost! What am I going to tell my Mom?” Cody Eakin, center – Vegas Golden Knights

The Winnipeg Jets showed the Vegas Golden Knights just who is royalty in the Western Conference with this 6-3 victory. Patrik Laine scored two goals to pace the Jets.

The Golden Knights have been nothing near the team who surprised everyone last season with their trip to the Cup Finals. They still look to make the playoffs but a team like the Jets seemed superior in this game.

The Jets would like nothing better than to face the Golden Knights in a rematch of the two teams in the postseason again. Look for them to fight for the best record in the West and be a formidable team in the playoffs.
