The Boston Bruins announced today that left winger Joakim Nordstrom is out. Nordstrom, 26, has a non-displaced fibula fracture according to the Bruins. He will be re-evaluated in three weeks time. However, that does not mean he will be back then. Nordstrom had the injury occur in the 2019 Bridgestone Winter Classic against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Joakim Nordstrom Out
Joakim’s Nordstrom injury may be minor but, the Bruins have been filled with injuries this season. And this is just one more to add to the list. Nordstrom is currently on a two-year deal that sees him paid 1 million dollars per season.
Nordstrom is in his 6th NHL season with his third team. He has played with the Blackhawks, Carolina Hurricanes, and the Bruins. He has proved a useful NHL player and was drafted in the 3rd round, 90th overall in 2010, by the Blackhawks. Nordstrom only has 7 points in 39 games this year but, he has been a fine depth player. He is just under 50% in CF% when it comes to possession.
Joakim Nordstrom has 25 goals, 31 assists for 56 points in 321 career games played. As well, he has added 52 penalty minutes in that time. Nordstrom’s career high in points was 24 in 2015-2016 with the Hurricanes.
Going Forward
This injury is just a depth player, however, every injury matters in the NHL. The Bruins have finally found some health but Charlie McAvoy is still on the Injured Reserve. There is a good chance that Nordstrom joins his teammate on the IR.
The Bruins currently sit 3rd in the Atlantic division with 48 points. They have managed to pass the Buffalo Sabres, despite the Sabres going on a 10 game win streak earlier this season. The Bruins have won 8 of their last 12 games, lots of that due to better health. The Bruins will look to keep rolling as they try for another Stanley Cup this season.
