Sens Ship Tom Pyatt and Mike McKenna to Vancouver Canucks
The Ottawa Senators completed a trade Wednesday with the Vancouver Canucks. The Sens acquire winger Darren Archibald and goaltender Anders Nilson in exchange for goaltender Mike McKenna and forward Tom Pyatt.
Key Players
In Pyatt, the Canucks get a solid bottom six winger. This season, he has two assists, adding two minutes in penalties in 37 games. His possession numbers are 34.8 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of -10 percent. Those totals are worse than his numbers last season, in which he scored seven goals and 15 assists for 22 points. Over his eight-year NHL career, Pyatt has played for the Montreal Canadiens, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Ottawa Senators. In that time, his numbers were 43 goals and 58 assists for 101 career points in 445 career games. He was originally drafted in the fourth round, 107th overall of the 2005 NHL draft by the New York Rangers.
What This Means for the Future
In this trade, we see a swap of bottom six forwards and backup goaltenders.
For the Canucks, this trade could possibly see goaltending prospect Thatcher Demko come up to back up Jacob Markstrom. Demko is 7-5 this season with a 2.63 GAA and .909 save percentage.
For Ottawa, this trade gives them a return after placing Pyatt on waivers. Nilsson gives the Sens a younger backup as they continue to rebuild in the future. The Sens will now look to Nilsson to get a chunk of the starts moving forward as Craig Anderson is out with a concussion. This also Darren Archibald a chance to get some NHL playing time. In 23 games this season with the Utica Comets Archibald has 11 goals and five assists for 16 points
