The Carolina Hurricanes pulled winger Micheal Ferland from last night’s game during the first period. He was returning from a concussion and reportedly suffered either a setback or other minor injury related to his time off the ice. It is unclear when Ferland will be ready to return.

Micheal Ferland Injured
Micheal Ferland left his first game back from a concussion in the first period after apparently not feeling 100%. It’s possible that he is still experiencing concussion-like symptoms. This is his second career concussion, his first one occurred in 2014 and caused him to miss eight games.
So far this season, Ferland has scored 11 goals and four assists for 15 points to go along with 13 minutes in penalties in 25 games. His possession numbers were 54.8 percent Corsi-For and a relative Corsi of -3.3.
Over his five-year NHL career, Ferland has played for the Calgary Flames and Carolina Hurricanes. He has 53 goals and 51 assists for 104 career points in 275 career NHL games. He was originally drafted by the Calgary Flames in the fifth round, 133rd overall in the 2010 NHL Draft.
What This Means for the Future
It’s been a rough week for the Canes as earlier this week they also lost Jordan Staal to a concussion.
Ferland has been a huge part of the Canes offence this year leading the team in goals as while as leading the team with 82 hits on the year. Ferland gives the Canes some depth playing on the third line alongside Clark Bishop and Brock McGinn. Victor Rask will likely take Ferland’s spot on the third line during his absence.
