Toronto Maple Leafs Re-Sign William Nylander
Nylander has spent his entire three-year NHL career with the Toronto Maple Leafs. He has put up 48 goals and 87 assists for 135 career points in 185 career games. He was originally drafted in the first round, eighth overall of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft by the Maple Leafs.
Last season, he scored 20 goals and 41 assists for 61 points in 82 games. He also added just 10 minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 51.4 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of 1.8. Nylander added one goal and three assists in the Leafs seven-game first-round series loss to the Boston Bruins. He has two goals and six assists for eight points in 13 career Stanley Cup Playoff games.
What This Means for the Future
This was just a matter of time for the Toronto Maple Leafs to get Nylander re-signed. He is an integral building block of the team moving forward always playing on Auston Matthews wing, and potentially centring his own line next year if needed. Posting back-to-back 61 point seasons, if he does continue to take a step forward, expect it to be moving up to the top powerplay unit with potentially Mitch Marner, who Nylander centred in the middle of the season while Matthews was injured.
