Boston Bruins Kevan Miller suffered a throat injury that will sideline him for at least five weeks. Miller took a puck to the neck in Monday’s game against the Toronto Maple Leafs. A moment that froze fans and players alike as throat injuries can be catastrophic. In Miller’s case the injury will him healing for the next five weeks.

Kevan Miller spent the night in a Toronto hospital Monday after he blocked a shot with his stick and the puck redirected into his throat. Initial X-rays were negative. Miller remained in the hospital for observation to make sure the injury didn’t swell and affect his breathing. Upon his return to Boston, a CT scan revealed a cartilage injury to his larynx.

Miller, who has only appeared in 11 of the Bruins 24 games, has tallied two points. The defenseman missed 13 games already this season due to a hand injury. The injury occurred after he blocked a shot in an October 18th contest against the Edmonton Oilers.

What this means for the future

The Bruins are already riddled with injuries to their defensive group. Despite injuries,team has been competitive this season. That said they have gone 5-3-2 in the last 10 games.  the team has been With Zdeno Chara out three to four weeks with a knee injury, and Charlie McAvoy (concussion) and Brandon Carlo (upper-body injury) with no clear timeline for a return. Miller’s injury is the last thing the team needs. Carlo skated in Wednesday’s practice along with Jan Kovar, who was playing in Providence on a PTO. The club already recalled Ryan Donato from the AHL. They could also call up Jakub Zboril or bring Steven Kampfer down from the press box.
