New York Islanders Place Three Players On Injured Reserve

The New York Islanders have announced that wingers Matt Martin (Upper-Body) and  Andrew Ladd(Lower-Body) have been placed on IR along with center Casey Cizikas (Lower-Body).

Casey Cizikas Injured

Cizikas and Ladd were both injured in Tuesday’s game vs the Vancouver Canucks.

So far this season, Cizikas scored five goals and four assists for 9 points to go along with 10 minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 47.2 % Corsi and a relative Corsi of 3.5 %.

Cizikas has spent his 8-year career playing for the New York Islanders. He has 49 goals and 84 assists for 133 career points in 429 career games. He was originally drafted by the New York Islanders in the fourth round, 92nd overall in the 2009 NHL draft.

What This Means for the Future

Notably, These three players have notched a combined 25 points this season for the Islanders. For the Islanders, the loss of Cizikas is the biggest of the three players placed on IR. He is expected to be out for two, possibly three weeks.

Thus far, Cizikas has been the best face-off man for the Islanders this season. He is 56.6% on draws. Without him, in the lineup, the Islanders will need to step up their face off game. The Islanders are currently 15th on the penalty kill this season. Also, they have also scored four short-handed goals this season.  That is good enough for is second in the league.

Martin who was acquired in a trade with the Toronto Maple Leafs hasn’t seen much time as he hasn’t played since November 1st due to a lower-body injury. Martin brings physicality to the Islanders and with only 11 games played this season he is second on the team with 42 hits. His presence on the blue line is a presence that the Islanders needed and his absence is notable in that regard.

The Islanders do not have a timeline on Ladd. He is out indefinitely. This is a notable loss for the Islanders as he produced assists and scoring this season. In addition, Ladd is another big body for the Islanders but has seen a decrease in scoring over the past few games.

In a corresponding move, the Islanders have recalled wingers Stephen Gionta and Michael Dal Colle up from the AHL.
